Hi
There were a record number of new companies formed in 2019 at just under 700,000 (690,763) according to a report from Inform Direct the highlights of which are:
- The number of UK companies now stands at an all-time high of 4,471,008, up 3.8% in a year.
- An all-time high of 690,763 UK formations in 2019, up from 669,855 in 2018
- Nearly a third of formations were in London, where 222,468 new companies were registered, followed by Greater Manchester and the West Midlands
- Cheshire was 9th in the list by number of new companies with 12,221 new companies.
This analysis is only based on limited companies and doesn't include the self-employed, freelancers and partnerships, which takes the national total of businesses to almost £6 million, the vast majority of which are sole traders or employ less than 5 people.
The report has statistics by county and areas within counties and make for fascinating reading.
