Hi
The legendary Bill Shankly once said to one of his players 'Nay son, your leg's not broken, its all in your mind.'
Bill knew a thing or two about our belief systems and, in particular, our limiting beliefs.
This reminded me about when I was a boy scout and Bob-a-Job week came round; this was the time of year - usually Spring - when boy scouts were supposed to do a fundraiser by doing jobs for their friends and neighbours for a shilling, or a bob as it was called. 5p nowadays!
I hated it and was always bottom of the fundraising table. I just about managed to get my parents and our next door neighbour to give me a job to do; which was strange because I got my first proper job - as a paper boy - when I was 13 and have worked ever since.
But asking for a job - any job - made my skin crawl. I couldn't help feeling that I was asking for something they didn't want to give and that I was somehow taking something from them.
When I look back now it was probably what set my limiting belief about selling, which I carried for a long time: I'm not very good at it, didn't enjoy it and it meant I was taking something from people.
Pretty stupid...huh?
If that's you, I feel for you. It took me a long time to get rid of my limiting beliefs and realise what selling really is: helping people and providing a service.
I now know that I have valuable services that will help entrepreneurial business owners get where they want to be: more successful, more well-off and more freedom to choose how they spend their time.
It is my responsibility to introduce them to how I can help them. Not in a pushy way, but informing, educating and showing them how they can overcome their problems, pains and barriers.
Why didn't my scout leader teach me this?!
Our limiting beliefs hold us back. Don't fall into the trap. If you have a blockage that prevents your from moving your business forward, find out what it is - it'll probably be a belief you've held for a long term and never questioned - and clear it.
To your success.
