Xero simplifies selecting the right app for your business

Published: Mon, 08/08/16

Hi

Xero, the cloud accounting company, whose success has been fuelled by the profusion of third-party add-ons that link to its core accounting engine, has given a facelift to its global apps marketplace.

There are now so many apps that it’s hard to track down the right ones for your business situation, so Xero has been looking at ways to help its users navigate the add-on selection maze, and the new marketplace layout is a first step in that direction.

The default view presents the user with a stack of 17 categories of apps, sorted by functions ranging from inventory and payments, through reporting, payroll & HR to practice management, integration and “other”. Each overview menu contains a selection of four “featured” apps in that category.

Clicking the arrow in the top right corner takes you through to the full listing, which in some categories can show 50+ apps.

This route into the app underworld may not suit everyone so Xero has created an alternative view arranged by industry solution.

As you click through to these selections, the initial menu presents a selection menu of the kinds of apps that would typically be used, so accountants get a menu suggesting tools for practice management, bills & expenses, reporting and conversions.

Another way that Xero is beginning to curate companion tools for its accounting engine is to feature specific add-ons as preferred providers. These apps tend to be the market leaders in their particular sector, and feature among the four icons visible in the main Xero marketplace menu tiles.

As we move closer to the introduction of Making Tax Digital (MTD) in April 2018, when all businesses and taxpayers will have to file quarterly financial information with HMRC from accounting software or via their agent, the cloud based providers are gearing up to be the solution of choice.

At Guilford Accounting we partner with all the major cloud providers - FreeAgent, Capium, Kashflow, QuickBooks and Xero - to provide our clients with a wide choice of solutions to suit their needs. if you would like a free, no obligation, quote - or know someone who would - to move your bookkeeping and accounting to the cloud please email noel@guilfordaccounting.co.uk or book a call at www.calendly.com/noelguilford.
