How do you fancy being rescued from the water by a powerful yet graceful 13 stone lifesaver? Well now you can.
And I should add that he has webbed feet, big ears, a wet nose and waggy
tail…...
As you may know, I have been a trustee of the PDSA – the UK’s leading vet charity - for the last few years. We have 50 specialist hospitals throughout the UK and last year, PDSA treated over 470,000 vulnerable and poorly pets, at a cost of £60 million. That's £5 million we
have to raise every month.
In case you haven't heard of us we treat the pets of people who otherwise wouldn't be able to afford veterinary care, and we never turn away a sick or injured pet.
In an effort to raise the vital funds we need and to increase this wonderful charity’s profile, PDSA
is holding a fantastic fundraising event at the Docklands Scout Project, Canary Wharf, on Monday 5 September.
PDSA has teamed up with Newfound Friends to give a select
number of people the chance to be ‘rescued’ from the water by a trained Newfoundland. These huge dogs, famed for their grace and strength, can pull the weight of 12 men in the water and will pull participants to safety, giving a once-in-a-lifetime chance to experience their lifesaving skills.
There are a number of ways you or your firm can support the event:
- Buy a corporate sponsorship package
- Take part or encourage someone you know to participate
- Help someone overcome a fear of water (or dogs!).
Recently, Nicky Gormley (wife of my
good friend Terry) parachuted out of an aeroplane to cure her fear of flying; just think - you could change someone's life for the better.

PS If you want to see these dogs in action and feel what it will be like to be rescued there are lots of videos on YouTube (be careful they are amazing to watch - even one with a dog jumping from a helicopter into water - and can be addictive).
PPS Please feel free to pass this to anyone else who you think may be interested in supporting this event.
