Don't panic Captain Mainwaring

Hi

Corporal Jones knew a thing or two about crises - real and imagined - and we should heed his sage advice.

Last Thursday was a momentous day for our Country and entrepreneurial small businesses. We were freed from the tyranny of bureaucrats and bankers who ravaged our markets and prospects, the big businesses who feasted on cheap immigrant labour and the political elite who mistook their comfortable community for the real world. The only surprise is that they didn’t see it coming.

Entrepreneurial small businesses and the majority of working people they employ have had their say.

And the future is brighter today for them than it has been for some time.

Sure, the bureaucrats, bankers, and big businesses  aren't happy, which is why so much of what has filled the newspapers since Thursday is negative.

But is there a crisis? No.

There is hope and opportunity.

I can put it no better than my friend Nigel Botterill who runs the Entrepreneurs Circle, the UK’s largest membership organisation dedicated to helping small businesses grow.

“Today is a historic day.

A day that will be writ large in history.

As entrepreneurs, we have always known that our own individual futures, our destinies, our lives, are our responsibility. In our control. That whatever happens is our fault.

Now the same is true for our country.

There'll be turmoil today. The result is a shock. There will undoubtedly be short-term pain.

But the future for our country is now under our control. Our responsibility. Our fault.

And that's liberating.

We'll take back the billions we give to the EU. We can get rid of the regulations which big business uses to crush competition and instead support new start-ups and creative talent.

We can forge trade deals and partnerships with nations across the globe, helping developing countries to grow and benefiting from faster and better access to new markets.

The prize is huge.

And it's us - the entrepreneurs - that must lead the way.

Now is our time.

This is our moment.

Our country needs us.

To get on the front foot. To build our businesses. To shape our future and the future for our children and our nation. Starting today.

The Entrepreneurs Circle is here to help you in any way we can - but especially to help you to grow your business and to exploit the huge opportunities that exist for you - and the ones you love.

Let’s embrace the future and all the opportunity it contains - because it belongs to us. The entrepreneurs.

There may be some short term pain. It's inevitable. But the future is much brighter for those businesses that seize this opportunity to level the playing field, compete on equal terms, innovate and grow.

There may be no better time.

To your success.
