Hi
I spent the weekend watching the singles finals at Wimbledon and was struck by one feature of both finals that occurred in the post-match interviews.
Unlike team sports such as cricket and football, singles tennis is usually viewed as a solo sport in which the participators alone must work out their strategy and how to adapt this as a match progresses.
But after both matches this weekend, the players – both winners and losers – paid credit to their teams, meaning their coaches, physios, sports scientists and psychologists. Tennis is no longer a solo sport but very much a team game in which the most competent team – not just player – is the winner.
It struck me how true this is for one-person businesses as well. As I wrote not long ago:
‘Being a one-person business doesn‘t mean you have to do everything yourself – even though some people try to. In fact the opposite is true. Knowing what to do yourself and what to outsource is a skill the most successful solopreneurs have developed and honed.’
So if you are trying to run your business alone take a tip from the world’s best tennis players – hire a coach and get a team around you.
